Casa Mila, “Cave” in the elite area of Barcelona

Casa Mila is an apartment building located on the corner of Passeig de Gracia. The shape is irregular and tend to be bumpy rated as one of the best architecture in Barcelona. The architect was none other than Antoni Gaudi. Casa Mila was built by Antoni Gaudi, between the years 1906 – 1912, when he was at the peak of his career. This building is the last work, before Gaudi devoted his life to the construction of the Sagrada Familia. Pedro Mila i Camps, a wealthy businessman who fascinated Casa Battlo. He wanted Gaudi to design an apartment for him. Once completed, the apartment named Casa Mila. But among the community, popularly known as La Pedrera. La pedrera means “mine”, called as such because of its shape like a rock cliff with a cave on every floor. The exterior of Casa Mila is just made up of a mix of gray and white.

The unique shape like the waves, with windows on every balcony. The design is very unique, irregular, even the roof and the pillars have different heights. To allow light into the entire room, Gaudi designing the apartments surrounding two central courtyard. One page is circular and the other is oval. The roof is decorated with such beautiful chairs like in the park Parc Güell. However, the most striking are the various forms of the chimney. Some of them resemble the figure of a knight in fiction films that use steel mask. Some go even irregularly shaped.

In 1984, the unique architecture of Casa Mila is patented as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Even so, however Pedro Mila difficult to market his apartment. Many people do not want to occupy the “cave” because they judge will be very difficult to put the furniture due to the irregular shape of the room.

In March until November 3, Casa Mila was opened to the public from 08:15 – midnight daily. While the start of November 4, Casa Mila opened only from Wednesday – Saturday at 19:00 to 22:30. Entry ticket costing € 30.00 for adults and € 15.00 for children aged 7-12 years. Manager of La Pedrera also offer tour packages dinner at Casa mila. To purchase tickets and package it, you can order it online. To reach this place you can take the metro L3 or L5 towards Diagonal. It also can use the bus 7, 16, or 17. Additional destinations are Las Ventas, Barrio Gotico, and Mezqueta de Cordoba. Over at Barcelna you can stay at Guillermo Tell, Barcelona Center Hotel, or Soho Hotel.
