Not far from Cape Point, located at the southern tip of Africa, is the Cape of Good Hope. Many visitors have come there since the 2010 World Cup.
Cape of Good Hope is a rocky promontory located on the coast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in South Africa. Many misunderstand that states that Cape of Good Hope is the southernmost tip of the African Continent, but actually the southern end of the African Continent is in a place that is 150 km to the southeast, namely the Agulhas cape. This misunderstanding is believed to have started because the Cape of Good Hope is an important geographic point for Portuguese sailors who want to sail towards the eastern hemisphere.
When following the west side of the African coastline from the equator, the Cape of Good Hope marks the point where a ship starts moving more east than south. Thus, the rounding of the first modern nylon in 1488 by Portuguese explorers was a milestone in Portuguese efforts to establish direct trade relations with the Far East.
Cape Point is located about an hour’s drive from downtown Cape Town. During the trip there is a beautiful view of the Atlantic sea. It’s incomplete if you don’t see the lighthouse which is the highest place on Cape Point.
There are two ways to see it by walking or taking the train. We have to queue because there are only two trains operating. Usually not as many visitors as this, but since the world cup the number of tourists who come increases.
